  1. 1) Name five books on your Christmas Wish list? The Hunger Angel, The Wasp Factory, Casino Royale, Worzel Gummidge and Desert of the Heart
    2) A book you like to read/would like to read for the holiday season? A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
    3) Christmas book as a child? I would have to say How the Grinch Stole Christmas because basically I don’t recall another “Christmas” book in the house.
    4) Which literary character do you think would give the best gifts? Anna Madrigal from Tales of the City. She’s a transsexual, free-spirit. She owns a giant old home at 28 Barbary Lane in San Francisco that has been converted into apartments. She used to own and operate a book store. She is generous of spirit and a source of hope and inspiration to those who know her. I have to believe she’d give wonderful gifts.
    5) If you could choose three literary characters to bestow gifts upon, who would they be, what would you give them, and why? 1) Mr. Garrick Ollivander (from Harry Potter) – a new (or restored) wand shop. 2) George Milton (from Of Mice and Men) – a small farm; 3) Rosemary Woodhouse (from Rosemary’s Baby) – the morning after pill.
    6) If you could give one character a lump of coal for being bad, who would it be? Mr McGregor (from The Tale of Peter Rabbit)
    7) Which Scrooge like character do you think would be the biggest downer during the holiday season? Agatha Trunchbull (from Matilda)
    8) Invite five authors and five characters to a festive season party.
Authors: Maya Angelou, Norton Juster, Mark Gatiss, Armistead Maupin and Ira Levin.
Characters: Molly Bolt (from Rubyfruit Jungle – a free spirit with loads of gumption), Freddy Honeychurch (from A Room with a View – Because he’s so damn cute and funny, plays the piano and has bright young friends), Uncle Daniel Ponder (from The Ponder Heart – an eccentric, a raconteur, a simple gentle soul), Anna Madrigal (from Tales of the City – for all the reasons mentioned in answer #4), and Theophilus North (from same – erudite, educated and well read).
