The Last Pier by Roma Tearne . Review

The story begins in 1939 and primarily tells the story of two families , the Maudsleys and the Molinellos before the outbreak of war in England. The Maudsleys and Molinellos are friends as well as sharing interests in each other's work , the Molinellos have an ice-cream shop and the Maudsleys supply them with the fruit needed for their delicious goods. The main storyteller of the story is Cecily Maudsley and through her eyes we see a lot of what is going on with all the various people surrounding her as she has a habit of eavesdropping on people's conversations and we get to know what she sees. Her sister Rose is who she is most envious of but Rose comes with her own demons. A tense time because of the fear of the outbreak of war was made worse by family issues anddiscrimination   , spy's were watched out for ,and danger did not seem too far away. Gripping ,emotional and impossible to put down.

  1. The way your book is on a yellow table made me think of a National Geographic cover at first glance. Thumbs up.
